Inspire Day with Braintree & Newhaven Foyer

Last week me and my colleague Harman held an Inspire Day hosted by Braintree Foyer for residents from both Braintree & Newhaven Foyer.

Our aim for the day was to inform young people of the Foyer Federation, Open Talent & the role of a Talent Champion.

There was a lot of energy buzzing around the room, just a few of the highlights include young people created their advantaged thinking mood boards covering the floors with unwanted disadvantaged words & images.  A passionate debate following a screening of Loserville centred around youth homelessness, the labelling of young people & young people thriving not surviving.

But it wasn’t just me & Harman running the show, at lunch time we were treated to a performance by the young people in the sound academy, they are fantastically talented, it was heart-warming to be invited.

I can’t give too much away, I don’t want to spoil the surprise for those attending future Inspire Days, I just wanted to let you all know how much fun we had!

Thanks to everybody who came along & got involved!

Choosing what to study and where?

Young people making that critical decision on what to study and where will be navigated by the new Unistats website.  Unistats is a comparative website providing information on over 31,000 university and college courses in the UK such as: student satisfaction ratings; graduate salaries and employment; tuition fees and financial support; and the cost of accommodation.

Barking & Dagenham Foyer Open Talents with Working Assets!

I just came across this on Facebook and had to share it with you all!

Barking and Dagenham Foyer  residents have been working hard on this masterpiece as part of their Working Assets project. It is a wind turbine sculpture created by Tasharn and Glenn out of scrap car parts in partnership with Ford.

I think you will all agree that  it is pretty cool.

This wind turbine sculpture was created out of car parts by Foyer residents!

Talent Champion Oli Phillips Shares Olympic Inspiration

Talent Champions are young people supporting the Foyer Federations Open Talent campaign through positive activity in their Foyers and local communities.

Last month as part of the Olympic festivities we asked our Talent Champions to share the Olympians that inspire them the most .

Oli wrote this on our Facebook page;

“I think that Tom Daley has to be the athlete that I inspire to. He like many young people has been passionate about his career/hobby from a young age, his motivation and commitment to this has let him stride to such high levels of success, for still such a young age.

One thing that inspires me the most about him is currently in popular media attention, his abuse over twitter the social networking platform. Over this it shows his determination and spirit not to let fellow people let him down, one thing that many young people have to face today. That’s why Tom Daley inspires me.

I do hope this inspires more young people like myself (:”

Thank you for sharing Oli!

The Olympics & Paralympics were fantastic, who inspired you?
